The Clovis News Journal, Portales News-Tribune and Quay County Sun have been sold to Clovis Media Inc., a new company based in Sheridan, Wyo., officials announced on Tuesday. The sale also includes all of the publications produced by the group now known as Freedom Newspapers of New Mexico. Here’s a brief history of each newspaper:

Curry County native competing for state fair queen

CNJ staff Deeann Shafer of Curry County is one of 14 competing this week for the title of New Mexico State Fair Queen. The competition, which begins Wednesday, includes a written test, horsemanship demonstration, interviews and speeches. The new queen will succeed Krystie Lynn Bierner and will be crowned Saturday during the PRCA rodeo.
