American ousted in 9-10-year-old state meet

RATON — The Clovis American All-Stars were eliminated from the double-elimination state 9-10-year-old Little League baseball tournament on Tuesday with an 11-4 loss to Silver City.

Cole Rohrbach drove in a pair of runs with a double for American, while Paden McDermid and Nick Luvera each had run-scoring groundouts.

The only District 3 team remaining in state competition is Roosevelt County in the 10-11-year-old tournament at Albuquerque. Roosevelt County defeated Raton 7-3 in a losers bracket game, and will face either Pecos or Carlsbad at 8 p.m. today.

Roosevelt County broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the fourth before Alex Galvan’s grand slam made it 7-0 an inning later.

Joseph Ortega, Edgardo Chavez and Junior Ramirez combined to handle the pitching duties for Roosevelt County. Raton did not score until plating three runs in the final inning.
