Killer Tumbleweeds, a movie produced by Bovina natives Ben and Butch McCain, comes to Clovis for its New Mexico premiere.

Ticket feature: Killer Tumbleweeds movie comes to Clovis

Tumbleweeds are attacking Middle America. More than 150 citizens are dead, 10,000 head of livestock destroyed and 300,000 children are suffering Killer Tumbleweed Trauma.

Rumor has it that Middle American University scientists altered tumbleweeds to kill desert-dwelling terrorists but now they’re out of control and terrorizing the country.

This fictional attack is the imagination of two Bovina brothers put to film.

Bovina natives Ben and Butch McCain are bringing their movie “Killer Tumbleweeds” to Clovis for its New Mexico premiere 7 p.m. April 4 at North Plains Cinema 7.

Ben McCain, a broadcaster for Time Warner Cable, said he and his brother are excited their film is premiering so close to where they grew up.

Ben McCain said he got the idea for the movie five years ago. He took a video camera home to his parents’ farm near Bovina to record the work they do on the farm. As he was filming his dad opening a gate, a huge tumbleweed flew across the background.

“I had an epiphany. Killer tumbleweeds would be a great movie,” Ben McCain said.

And it just picked up from there. Parts of the movie were filmed in Japan, Italy and Washington D.C. in front of the White House.

The movie is not rated, but the brothers warn movie-goers.

“If you don’t have a sense of humor, have been called an intellectual or if you might be offended by tumbleweeds attacking human beings, we encourage you to stay away from this screening,” they’re quoted as saying in a news release.

Killer Tumbleweeds 2 and 3, the sequels, are already in the works. Ben McCain said they hope to make 10.
