Pro-immigration rally planned

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Immigrant advocates plan to hold a rally in Clovis Tuesday in support of immigration reform.

The march, which begins at 9 a.m., is a repeat of last year’s event held at the height of the immigration-law reform debate.

This year’s rally, dubbed the Great American Boycott II, coincides with Mexico’s Labor Day holiday.

Event coordinator Flor Acosta, 34, said the purpose of the rally is to push Congress to stop persecuting illegal Mexican immigrants.

“We (rally participants) want to stop the raids like the one that happened in Cactus, Texas,” Acosta said, “and push Congress to pass immigration bills.”

More than 600 people wearing white clothing marched in the 2006 rally.

Acosta said the marchers would once again wear white to symbolize peace.

What: Immigration reform rally

When: Tuesday

Time: 9 a.m.

Where: Marchers will meet at Lowe’s, located on the corner of 14th and Main streets.

Euthanasia methods
Do you think the city of Clovis should change its method used to euthanize animals from gas to lethal injection?
Yes.
No.
Either way is OK. The focus should be on spay and neuter education.
