Tuesday morning briefing: Western tunes, basketball

Pretend there’s a campfire
Western music has its connoisseurs. ... If you’re one of them, you’ll want to be at the annual Western Music conference in Albuquerque at the end of the week.
It’ll be held at the Albuquerque Marriott (take Louisiana exit off of Interstate 40) and will last from Thursday through Saturday.
Performances are mostly in the daytime, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, preceding an awards show, live music will go on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early get-together
Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education meets at 5:30 tonight at Marshall Middle School.
It’s a regular meeting, just pushed up one week because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Nov. 17, 1931: Clovis’ Hummingbird Club met in the home of Mrs. O.G. Potter at 813 Gidding, according to The Clovis Evening News-Journal.
Members of the club experienced a “most enjoyable afternoon of needlework,” the paper reported.
Meanwhile on North Gidding, members of the “Just-a-Mere” club played bridge at the home of Mrs. Cash Ramey.
Edna Clarke Epperson reported the society news. The columnist did not report the first names of the women hosts, but a Curry County history book reveals they were Katie Dean Potter and Pearl Ramey. Both of their husbands were prominent in Clovis history.
Oscar Gerome Potter was Clovis’ mayor from 1953 to 1957 and a park is named in his honor in west Clovis. Cash Ramey, a banker with interests in real estate and cattle, was Clovis mayor from 1915 to 1917.
