Isler undergoing tests to determine cause of collapse

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Clovis High senior Jaden Isler is in Dallas as doctors continue to search for clues regarding his collapse Thursday at a softball game in Canyon, Texas.

J.D. Isler, Jaden’s father and coach at CHS, said staff at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo haven’t identified what caused the senior’s heart to stop.

The Islers landed Thursday night in Dallas, where Jaden will undergo further tests at Baylor Hospital.

“They did a bunch of tests in Amarillo (at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital),” J.D. Isler said. “Structurally, everything about his heart is good, so they felt they needed to send him (here).”

In layman’s terms, J.D. Isler said, doctors have explained that heart problems are either plumbing or electrical. Tests Jaden has undergone so far — a CAT scan, a heart catheter, an EKG test, a heart MRI and an echocardiogram — have taken away “plumbing” problems.

“They’ve ruled out there was any genetic defects as far as structure or a clogged artery,” J.D. Isler said. “There’s no aneurysm or anything like that.”

He said he was aren’t sure how long they’ll be in Dallas, but the assumption is Jaden will opt out of the Golden Spread All-Star Games on April 10-12 in Amarillo. He and fellow Clovis senior Layne Strebeck were chosen to play in the series.

Future athletic endeavors would be speculation for Jaden Isler, who on Thursday afternoon verbally committed to Charleston Southern University to play basketball.

“Once we find out what it is, we don’t want to rush into any kind of decision,” J.D. Isler said. “This isn’t something you want to rush.”

The family extended thanks to Clovis and the rest of the state for the support they’ve received over the last week.

“They’ve been overwhelming with how they’ve called and wished us their prayers.” J.D. Isler said. “It’s really touching the way people have responded to Jaden and his condition. As a parent, that means a lot.”
