Inmate charged in drug smuggling attempt

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A Curry County inmate was charged Friday with conspiring to smuggle drugs into the jail, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

Sergio James, 31, orchestrated the delivery of the drugs for distribution within the facility, Waller said.

James is still an inmate at the detention center. His bond was increased by $50,000, Waller said.

The charges stem from the discovery of drugs and contraband Sept. 29 in a lobby bathroom at the detention center.

Jail officials found tobacco, marijuana, a vial containing an unidentified substance that was labeled “methotrexate,” and a white “powdery” substance.

More arrests are expected, Waller said.
