Man recovering from head injuries

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A Clovis man is recovering from traumatic head injuries after he was attacked at a local bar Saturday morning, police records show.

Jordan Romero, 22, was struck in the back of the head by an unknown suspect outside Kelley’s Bar and Grill around 1:30 a.m. Romero’s skull was fractured, and he was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital, a police report said.

Romero returned home Sunday, his mother Lisa Dant said.

According to the report, witnesses said a group of males claiming gang affiliation antagonized Romero throughout the evening.

After the bar closed, witnesses said a male approached Romero in the parking lot, trying to get him to fight while his friends stood nearby chanting the name of a gang and calling Romero names, the report said.

According to the report, when Romero turned and walked away, another male in the group hit Romero in the back of the head with an unknown object.

Witnesses were hesitant to give identifying information on the suspect for fear of retaliation, the report said.

Romero works for a railroad subcontractor and returned home to Clovis from California for Easter, Lisa Dant said.

Ray Dant said his stepson has no gang affiliations.

Doctors have said the affects of the trauma to Romero’s  brain could be permanent, the Dants said.

“I just want my boy to get better. It was a scary, scary thing to go through,” Ray Dant said.
