Vacated music festival slot filled

Chris Montez, Bobby Preston and the Chiffons will fill the Clovis Music Festival lineup vacated by the Crickets, according to Clovis Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Beverly Reynolds.

The festival is scheduled for Sept. 4-6.

According to an official statement Wednesday from the Crickets management, “unforeseen circumstances” caused the group to pull out from the festival.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ernie Kos said the group performed at the music festival two years ago.

Founded in 1957 with Buddy Holly as lead guitar and vocalist, the Crickets recorded hits like “That’ll Be The Day” and “Peggy Sue.”

Montez, Preston and the Chiffons perform at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater in Branson, Mo.
