A 26-year-old Amarillo man died Monday morning following a three vehicle crash on East Mabry Drive in Clovis.

Donnie Burris died during helicopter transport to a Lubbock hospital for trauma care, according to a press release from Clovis police.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m., the release said.

A 2005 GMC Panhandle Fire Protection pickup truck driven by Burris, an employee, drifted south from the westbound lanes and struck the rear of a Curry County semi-truck hauling dirt, the release said.

A third vehicle, also a pickup truck, had just turned east from Humphrey Road and tried to avoid the crash but was struck by Burris’ vehicle.

Burris’ vehicle rolled onto its side and a passenger in the pickup was able to escape with minor injuries but Burris had to be extricated from the vehicle, the release said.

The occupants of the other two vehicles were uninjured, the release said.

The crash is being investigated.
