Associated Press declares win for Cosner

Quay County native Craig Cosner won the only contested primary race for a seat in the state House of Representatives in Tuesday’s primary election.

Cosner beat Van Robertson 1,247 to 875 for the State Representative District 67 in the Democratic Primary with complete results from all counties except Curry County. The Associated Press named him the winner of the race.

“I’m very humbled by the results,” Cosner said. “It has been a very interesting process and I’ve had an opportunity to visit with a lot of people that I haven’t visited with in a long time and I think it is always interesting to hear what each community thinks is important for them and the way they view our election process.”

Cosner will face Republican Dennis Roch during the Nov. 4 general election. Roch ran unopposed in the Republican Primary.

Cosner said he has not held an elected public office but has held gubernatorial and senatorial appointments, including memberships in the New Mexico Finance Authority and the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents.

“I’m going to be interested in basically working with all the constituents all up and down the northeastern side of New Mexico,” he said.

Cosner said his campaign will focus on education, health care and economic development.

District 67 includes Curry, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt, San Miguel and Union Counties.
