Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Clovis City Commission meets 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the north annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

• A change to city landfill fees. Disposal fees would be $26 per ton, but with city approval in advance the fee can be reduced to $10 per ton for disposal of debris from the demolition of buildings within city limits.

• A budget change towards the purchase of a new fire truck. A budget of $510,000 was created last July to purchase a fire truck. The current cost of a truck with a 2009 chassis is $454,884. In three weeks, only trucks with a 2010 chassis will be available for purchase, at a $25,000 increase over the 2009 model.

• The election of two members to the Public Works Committee. Both Lunell Winton (District 4) and Lonnie Leslie (District 1) have indicated a desire to serve an additional term. An election will be necessary in District 1 with David Dias, Stephen Verdile and John Olivarez all expressing an interest in the committee.

• An agreement between the Clovis Swim Club and the Clovis Aquatic Center to conduct instructional swimming programs at the center through May.

• Approval of a runway extension at the Clovis Municipal Airport, a $6.6 million project mostly funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. The city will contribute $165,000.

• Approval of board appointments for the Keep Clovis Beautiful Committee, the Commission of Older Adults and the Clovis Library Board.
