Press Release: Injured Clovis officer recovering
On Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at approximately 8:25 AM, the Clovis Police had received a distress call where an officer had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. That officer is Sgt. Robert Denney, a nine year veteran with the department.
Sgt. Denney is the first line supervisor of the Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit and was preparing to attend a Police Motorcycle Training class in Amarillo. In preparation of the class, Sgt. Denney had been operating a department owned motor unit for two weeks completing a variety of exercises in a controlled environment.
On Saturday, Sgt Robert Denney was riding with a second motorcycle on the city streets as a part of his training regiment when he lost control of his motor at the intersection of Purdue and Echols Street while negotiating a turn. Sgt. Denney was ejected from the motorcycle and he struck a metal pole with his right lower leg causing injury to his leg and pelvis.
Sgt. Denney’s condition is non-life threatening.
Chief Sanders asks that everyone keep Sgt. Denney and his family in their thoughts and prayers while he is recovering.
