Events center roof springs leak
The Curry County Events Center roof is leaking.
Event Center Manager Kevin Jolley said the small leaks around the edge of the roof can be easily fixed with some caulk.
The repair will not cost the county anything because it is a warranty issue, he said.
Jolley said the problem only recently became obvious because the center opened in April 2009, but didn't get much rain in its first year.
Recent and unusual deluges have shown the need for added caulking.

Water authority gets name change
Can I buy a vowel?
The Eastern New Mexico Rural Water Authority, as of Thursday, is no more.
It will now be the Eastern New Mexico Utility Authority. Its first meeting is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Texico Fire Department.
The authority is still responsible for the creation and management of the Ute Water Project — a pipeline moving water from the Ute Reservoir in Quay County to eight authority members — Clovis, Portales, Texico, Elida, Grady, Melrose and Curry and Roosevelt counties.
As the ENMRWA, all eight members got one vote.
Now, there are seven votes — three from Clovis, two from Portales and one from Curry County.
The last vote rotates between the smaller communities. Texico will be the small community representative Thursday.
Utility authority status would allow the ENMRWA to sue and be sued, issue revenue bonds and use eminent domain for right-of-way issues, among other provisions.

Police: Witnesses didn't hear siren
New Mexico State Police have issued a report noting witnesses to a June 19 crash in Portales didn’t hear a siren before Officer Lee Ferguson’s cruiser rolled over on U.S. 70.
Ferguson was cited for not wearing a seat belt.
A spokesman for the District Attorney said Wednesday that no further charges would be filed against the officer.
