Sept. 5, 2008 Police Blotter

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About 9 p.m. Aug. 26 an officer responded to an undisclosed residence for a battery report.

A male juvenile holding a bag of ice in his lap told the officer he was battered during football practice at a school in the 1500 block of Sycamore Street.

The boy said another player yelled his name and when he turned around, the boy punched him repeatedly in the groin area.

The officer advised the boy’s father he could either deal with the matter through school administrators or through a criminal complaint. The father decided to take the matter up with school officials.

About 1 p.m. Aug. 27 an officer located a lost cell phone in the grass at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Grand Avenue.

The officer found a stored number in the phone listed as “Baby Mama” and called it.

The female who answered said the phone belonged to her boyfriend. The officer took the information and told her the phone could be claimed at the police department.

About 1 p.m. Aug. 27 an officer responded to a school in the 100 block of Edwards for an assault that led to the school being evacuated.

A female told the officer during lunch a male student took a canister of pepper spray from her pocket and sprayed it on another student’s leg and on a desk.

The officer noted the effects of the spray spread throughout the school and several students had to be sent home because of breathing problems.

The officer confiscated the spray canister and noted intent to issue citations to the students involved upon their return to school.

About 2 p.m. Aug. 27 an officer responded to a school in the 1500 block of Sycamore for an assault report.

A student said another student touched her inappropriately twice. When she told him to stop, he started calling her names.

The officer noted intent to serve the boy with a citation for assault.

About 11 p.m. Aug. 27 an officer responded to a hotel in the 1400 block of Mabry Drive to remove a violent subject.

Officers took the suspect, who had a claw hammer, into custody.

An associate of the suspect said he and the man argued and the suspect hit him in the hand with a hammer.

The officer noted the man’s hand appeared broken.

The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal damage.
