Local businesses hosting fund-raiser

Applebee’s and High Plains Harley-Davidson are joining forces Saturday to raise money for a Clovis teen stricken with a spinal disease.

Clovis resident Kenneth Nation was diagnosed with transverse myelitis in June. The rare disease has left the 15-year-old paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair.

Sherri Devou, Applebee’s manager, said funds raised during the event would be used to purchase Nation a high-tech wheelchair.

The fundraising event will begin with a 9 a.m. poker run at 4400 Mabry Dr.

Devou said a car wash and bake sale will be held at Applebee’s throughout the day. The day will end with a “celebrity server” night from 5-9 p.m. with all tips being donated to the wheelchair fund.
