SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sophomore Katie Ramsey scattered six hits over 4 2/3 innings, helping Eastern New Mexico snap a 23-game losing streak against Angelo State with an 8-1 win Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader split.

The host Rambelles (19-7, 4-1) won the opener 3-0 behind a five-hitter from Mary Kate McKay.

Eight of the Zias’ nine starters egistered at least one hit, with all nine reaching base. Junior shortstop Beatriz Caporal went 2-for 5 with a double, and RBI and a stolen base for Eastern (7-22, 1-4).

Zia freshman Mary Joe Granger was the hard-luck loser in the opener, allowing one earned run on the day.

The Zias remain on the road next week, with a 2 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday doubleheader at Oklahoma Panhandle State.

 

Greyhounds swept by Texans

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State has so far given Eastern New Mexico a cold welcome to the Lone Star Conference season.

Alvaro Moreno went 5-for-7 with nine RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning of the nightcap, to help the host Texans finish off a Saturday doubleheader sweep with a 12-0 victory over the visiting Greyhounds.

The Texans (14-6-1, 3-0 LSC) won the opener 13-7. Including the Texans’ 17-2 blowout Friday, Tarleton outscored the Greyhounds 42-9 over the three-game set.

The teams face off in a 1 p.m. (CDT) Sunday single game to close out the series.

Matt Buckmaster went the distance for the Texans in the second game, allowing four runs over seven innings with just one walk.
