Lady Rams rally to nip Robertson 5-4
LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Catcher Simone Laurenz drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing in the winning run Friday and giving the Portales Lady Rams a 5-4 softball victory over Las Vegas Robertson at West Las Vegas High.
Portales (2-1) fell behind 4-1 when the Lady Cardinals scored three times in the top of the fourth, but chipped away to tie it going into the seventh.
Amanda Marquez went the distance for the win, allowing three hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts.
The Lady Rams closed to 4-3 on a two-out, two-run single by Sorina Flores in the fifth. They tied the game in the sixth when Laurenz reached on an error leading off and eventually scored on a single by Kelsey Laurenz.
In the seventh, Marquez drew a one-out walk, Flores was hit by a pitch and Brittany Gardner walked to load the bases for Simone Laurenz.
Snow began to fall in the fourth inning, Lady Rams coach Robbie Crowley said, and was a little heavier at game’s end.
Weather permitting today, PHS will face Raton at 9 a.m. and West Las Vegas at 11 a.m.
