Amarillo River Road 25, Muleshoe 21
What: Texas Class 2A Division I bi-district game
Records: Muleshoe 10-1, River Road 9-3
Difference: The Wildcats, who led 12-0 at halftime, fell behind 21-12 in the fourth quarter before scoring twice in the final 3 1/2 minutes and knocking out the defending state champion Mules.
Difference-makers: RB Chris Perez rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for River Road, while QB Sheldyn Van Winkle threw for three scores, including a 41-yard TD pass to Kristian Askins with 2:26 left. … RB Juan Sanchez rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns, both coming in the fourth quarter to rally the Mules from a 12-7 deficit.
Of note: Muleshoe had won 25 in a row dating to the start of the 2008 season. … The Wildcats outgained the Mules 302-280 for the game. Muleshoe couldn’t overcome five turnovers, including four interceptions. … River Road will play Littlefield, a 29-12 winner over Alpine.

Melrose 62, Mountainair 0
What: 8-man semifinals
Records: Muleshoe 12-0, Mountainair 8-4
Difference: Melrose scored 30 points in the second quarter to open a 46-0 cushion at the half.
Difference-makers: Sophomores Lance Widner and Seaver Tate combined for five touchdowns, with Widner tallying on runs of 45, 50 and 24 yards and Tate on runs of 1 yard and 45 yards. … Senior QB Clint Barnard ran for one touchdown and threw for another, and accounted for four 2-point conversions — three rushing and 1 passing.
Of note: The defending 8-man champion Buffaloes, who have allowed eight points or less in 10 games, earned their third shutout this year and extended their winning streak to 25 games dating to the start of last season. … Melrose won earlier this season at Mountainair 64-8.

Difference: The second-seeded Bobcats shut out the Foxes until the final quarter.
Difference-makers: QB Isaac Bejarano ran for two touchdowns and threw for another for the Bobcats. … Kolter West scored on a 1-yard run and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Reed Kenyon for Fort Sumner’s scores.
Of note: Fort Sumner’s string of four Class 1A state titles came to an end. The Foxes had won six of the last eight since losing to Hagerman in the 2000 finals. … Hagerman will face the winner between Jal and top-seeded Clayton, who meet today in Clayton, in next week’s championship game.
