Rattlers scrimmaging Clovis JV

As Quay County football teams wrap up their two-a-day practices they plan to use upcoming scrimmages to measure their progress and weaknesses.

The Tucumcari Rattlers will scrimmage against Clovis' junior varsity at 5 p.m. on Friday at Clovis.

"We have a lot of heart on our team," said Rattlers' Coach Daniel Hutchins. "I think we are going to surprise some people out there this year."

The Rattlers' first game of the season is at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 against the Carrizozo Grizzles at Carrizozo.

In Logan, the Longhorns will scrimmage at home at 4 p.m. Friday night against the Bataan Military Academy and Boise City, Okla.

“Everyone wants to try something new in their game plan," said Longhorns Coach Billy Burns. "We are going to try out some new stuff and play our kind of football."

The Longhorns' first game is at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 against the Springer Red Devils.

San Jon will play its first game at 4 p.m. against the House Cowboys on Aug. 28 at San Jon.

"I've seen a lot of good things during practice," said Steve Foust, Coyotes head football coach. "These guys have been working hard preparing for the season."

In volleyball action

The Lady Longhorns will scrimmage at 5 p.m. Thursday against the Clayton Lady Vixens at Logan. The Logan spikers' first match is at 4 p.m. Aug. 29 against the Springer Lady Devils at Springer.

Tucumcari will scrimmage Santa Rosa on Saturday at Santa Rosa. The Lady Rattlers' first match is at 4:30 p.m. Aug.24 against the Elida Lady Tigers at Tucumcari.

The House Cowgirls will play at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 against the Melrose Lady Buffalos, at Melrose.
