PRMC Auxilians

Plains Regional Medical Center Auxilians attending the Annual New Mexico Auxiliary/Volunteer service meeting in Albuquerque, Sept. 16, 17 and 18 were Ida Chandler, Norma Nagle, Frances Atkins-Boney, Robbie Williams, Phyllis Davidson, Joy Melton, Frances Rhoden, Mary Kay Nabholz, Helen Masters, Paula Jackson, Dorothy Bean and Rita Bumgarner.

theme was A Symphony From The Heart.

Speakers were Rich Umbdenstock, President of American Hospital Association, Marianne Cramer, Steve Sink, APD, Maxine Roberson and Lee Smith, Hospice from Clovis.

Entertainment was Juliet Funk, daughter of Allen Funk creator of Candid Camera. She and her husband have CO-founded the Young Stars Project.

Friday Morning was the Memorial Service and farewell address from Anne Felton, out-going president.

Installation of new officers by Betty Pfeiffer and Becky Diaz.

President Linda Round-Nichols; President-Elect Paula Johnston; Secretary Peggy Broersma and Treasurer Lee Ann Smith.

 

Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met Sept. 24 at Trinity Luthern Church with 12 members present.

Sheryl Abdill called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered with what are you thankful for today? Valeria Jordan read “If I were the devil” by Paul Harvey. June Phillips read the minutes. Dorothy Bean gave the treasurer’s report.

• High Plains Quilt Festival Oct. 9-10 with Sheryl teaching a Mystery quilt workshop on the 9th

• Annual Banquet, Nov. 19

• Curry County Christmas showcase, Nov. 13-14

A memorial gift for Robbie Wicker was voted on.

Sheryl presented the leader training on Domestic Violence.

Hostesses Sandra Stalcup and Sheryl served refreshments.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels board met for its monthly board meeting at Pool Law Firm Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009.

Members in attendance were Faye Smith, Angela Cowart, Barbara Voges, Mike Wells, Kathy Travis, Phyllis Davidson and Cleta Cook. Executive Director Penny Burns was also in attendance.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved, along with the treasurer’s report. Penny gave the coordinator’s report — we currently are delivering meals to 40 clients, which includes four renal patients who require special diets.

Some of the items discussed were the new recruiting brochures, which will be ready for distribution next month. There was also discussion about putting advertisements in the newspaper to solicit volunteers to deliver, as this is an ongoing struggle for the organization.

The nominating committee was put together, and the date of Dec. 10 was decided on for the combined November/December meeting. The October meeting will be held at First Methodist church.
