Accused gunman in Arkansas police shooting jailed

Turns himself in at San Jon port of entry

A man accused of shooting of an Arkansas police officer is being held in Tucumcari today on a $1 million bond after police say he turned himself in at San Jon port of entry.

Tristan Honey, 25, of Fort Smith , Ark. surrendered to New Mexico Port of Entry Officer Daniel Gonzales at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, state police said.

"Tristan was taken into custody by New Mexico State Police Officers without incident," said Lt. Cleo Baker.

Baker said Honey was taken to the Quay County Detention Center.

Honey is a suspect in the shooting of Fort Smith police Cpl. Barney Parsons early Saturday morning during a traffic stop, according to Fort Smith police spokesman Sgt. Levi Risley.

Risley said during the traffic stop, Honey suddenly got out of the vehicle and began shooting.

Parsons, who is in stable condition at a Fort Smith hospital, was struck in the chest, leg and foot.

Parsons is a 24 year veteran assigned to the Patrol Operations Unit.
