Oct. 4 Press release: McClendon captured

Re: Capture of Larry McClendon Jr. – Escapee from the Curry County, New Mexico Detention Center.

On October 4, 2008 at approximately 10:00 AM, Larry McClendon Jr. was captured by the Amarillo Police Department, US Marshall’s Service and Amarillo SWAT Team in Amarillo, Texas.

Tips generated through America’s Most Wanted reported sightings in the Amarillo area.  During surveillance, the Amarillo Police Department and US Marshall’s Service spotted McClendon as he was leaving an apartment complex in the 4700 Block of West 57th.  McClendon fled and a short foot pursuit ensued, ending in his capture. 

McClendon was being sought by the Curry County Sheriff's Office following his escape, with seven other inmates, from the Curry County Detention Center on August 24, 2008 in Clovis, New Mexico.  In addition to charges resulting from the escape, McClendon is pending charges for Murder and Aggravated Robbery. 

Still at-large from the escape are:

-    Michael England – 29 years of age, 5’7”, 130 lbs, Black hair, Brown eyes.  Tattoo on back: “Only God Can Judge Me.”  Tattoo on right forearm: “South”.  Tattoo on left forearm: “Side”.  Pending charges for Tampering with Evidence and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Last Known Address: 209 Redwood, Clovis, NM.  Place of Birth: San Antonio, TX

-    Edward Salas – 21 years of age, 5’5”, 180lbs, Brown hair, Brown eyes.  Tattoo on back: “SALAS”.  Tattoo on right arm: “LISA”.  Convicted of Murder and was pending transfer to the NM Department of Corrections.  Last Known Address: 3104 Smith, Clovis, NM. Place of Birth: NM

-    Louis Chavez – 18 years of age, 5’2”, 177 lbs., Black hair, Brown eyes.  Tattoos: Chest – “FEAR NONE”, Both arms: Tribal patterns.  Last Known Address: 1031 Laberton, Albuquerque, NM.  Place of Birth: NM

Warrants have been issued for each individual for escape.

The Curry County Crime Stoppers are offering rewards for information leading to the capture of the remaining three.

Edward Salas - up to $5,000
Michael England - up to $1,500
Louis Chavez - up to $1,000
   
And, they are still offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of Noe Torres.
