Lady Wildcats figure out Hobbs' serves; win in four games
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HOBBS — The Hobbs Lady Eagles threw a little serving wrinkle at Clovis High on Tuesday night.
It took the Lady Wildcats a game or so to figure it out, but once they did they went on to a 10-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 win in the District 4-5A opener for both squads.
“They have a little different style of serving, different angles,” CHS coach Darrel Ray said. “They were effective in Game 1.”
The Lady Eagles (8-8) had several aces in that game, and even when the Lady Cats (10-5) were able to play the ball they weren’t able to mount much of an attack.”
Clovis began to take over in the second game, though, and eventually nailed it down.
“The kids did a good job of adjusting,” Ray said. “When we had the passing, we did a good job of attacking.”
He singled out back row players Felicia Aguilar, Adrianna Aguilar and Nicole Anaya, who combined for 40 digs.
“Those three kids did a good job,” Ray said. “They all did a good job of reading and passing and defending.”
Senior outside hitter Lainey Flatow led Clovis in kills with 11.
The Lady Cats step outside the district on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. match against Onate in Las Cruces.
