Llano Estacado Quilt Guild
The meeting of the Llano Estacado Quilt Guild began with installation of new officers for the 2010-2012 years.
The installation ceremony was conducted by Joyce Reed. Joyce then presented each newly installed officer with a quilt guild logo “badge” with their position embroidered on it. They are:
• Treasurer — Leigh Reynolds
• Secretary — Jeanette Biddle
• Vice-President — Brenda Harpold
• President — Amy Armenta
Brenda Harpold presented the outgoing president, Elizabeth Lawrence, and the incoming president, Armenta, each with a monogrammed denim shirt.
There were two new members, Sue Best and Jeanette Fister of Tucumcari.
The treasurer’s report was given and announcements were made of upcoming e vents.
The meeting was then turned over to Judy Matthews of the Patchwork House who taught her quilting class “Crossing the Atlantic.”
The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club
The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club met Jan. 27 at Muffley’s Back Door with Hildegunde Pulz and Lucille Johnson as hostesses.
Other members were Donna Ahrlett, Ginger Beck, Jean Bristow, Reba Camp, Ann Carter, Lois Hollinsworth, Marcy Kos, Evelyn Manning, Sue Pattison, Hilda Rogers, Aloha Starbuck, Lola Starbuck and Annette Taylor.
Guests were Virginia Reid and Willie Madera.
Annette presented a program on “Smart Shopping.” She and Ginger started members working on the club project of photo frames. Ann’s on, Matt Carter, entertained with beautiful music and songs.
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10 with Reba Camp as hostess. Ginger will give a demonstration of spinning.
The guild is promoting the art of quilting to anyone interested in learning. Beginning quilters learn from the experienced quilters and from demonstrations at each meeting. Our next meeting will be at 9 a.m. March 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church on 21st Street.

United Daughters of the Confederacy
Ellen W. Jones Chapter of UDC met Feb. 2 at Roosevelt General Hospital. Nine members were present for lunch and a program.
Janelle Foster, president, opened the meeting. Jan Ross led the ritual and Sasha Dement led the pledges. The invocation was given by Bess Jones.
The hostess committee was Peg Kline and Della Kobernick, who had a red, white and blue theme.
The minutes were read by Della and the treasurer’s report was given by Janelle in the absence of the treasurer. Cards were ready by Peg from Jane Hilliard thanking us for her birthday wishes and the Light House Mission thanking us for our donation.
