Meals on wheels
The monthly board meeting was held on Thursday, June 25th, at Pool Law Firm.
Board members in attendance were Angela Cowart, Mike and Karen Wells, Kathy Travis, George Boal, Jill Whitehead and Faye Smith.
Executive coordinator Penny Burns was also there.
It was reported there are 35 clients signed up to receive meals, and there is still a need for volunteer drivers to cover all deliveries.
The new brochure is being developed is still not ready to publish.
The board voted to accept the resignation of our current president Ginny Barboza due to illness, and to allow Faye Smith to finish out the year in her place until the new officers are selected.
There are three spots open on the board, and they will need to be filled to keep our board at required membership level.
After other business items were discussed, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on July 23.
Encanto Garden Club
Encanto Garden Club met at the home of Donna Whitfield on June 8.
The program topic was Weed Eradication. Curry County Extension agent, Stan Jones, discussed ways to ensure a beautiful weed-free lawn.
Jones suggested the best spray mechanism for weed spraying was the dial hose sprayer. MSMA, he explained, is a selective grass herbicide.
He suggested using a splash of 2-4-D, which is the same as Weed Be Gone, along with MSMA will give the grass a quick start by killing unwanted weeds. The Web site created by NMSU was recommended, nmsu.edu.
The business meeting and refreshment followed the presentation. Future meetings will be planning and discussing arrangements for the Curry County Flower Show to be held Aug. 10-15 at the Curry County Fairgrounds.
Barbara Voges will host July meeting July 14. For information concerning attending the meeting, call Barbara at 763-6961.
