The Clovis Police Department is preparing to participate in the 31st annual National Night Out drug and crime prevention program event scheduled for Tuesday evening.
CPD’s Sgt. Daron Roach said the event will be the seventh year the police department has participated in the nationwide event.
Roach said the 31st National Night Out will take place at Greene Acres Park and the department will shut down 21st Street between Main and Mitchell streets for the duration of the event.
Roach said the event, which drew an estimated 2,100 people in 2013, will have local food vendors and live music from 6 p.m. until dark.
Law enforcement from the Curry County Sheriff’s Department, New Mexico State Police, Portales Police Department, and Department of Transportation will be at the event to interact with attendees.
“It’s a chance for residents to visit with local law enforcement and for law enforcement to learn about the community,” said Roach.
Roach said police cruisers and equipment will be on display along with units and equipment from the National Guard and Cannon Air Force Base.
Roach said they are expecting AeroCare to land a helicopter at the park as well, depending on conditions during the event.
The Curry County Health Council will also be on site to hold the Back to School Health Fair.
