Lady Cats fall twice at Hobbs

Staff report

HOBBS — Clovis High’s softball team competed well but got off to a rocky start in District 4-5A play on Tuesday.

Hobbs’ K’lee Kent pitched a three-hitter and doubled hin a run as the Lady Eagles won the opener 2-0. Hobbs (13-6) then rallied from a 3-1, sixth-inning deficit to take the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings.

Junior A.J. Wright went the distance in the circle in both games for the Lady Wildcats (7-11, 0-2), who had won five of six coming in.

Catcher Stephanie Gulley highlighted a three-run fifth in the second game with an RBI single. Hobbs tied it with two in the sixth and then won it in the first extra inning.

“We coimpeted,” CHS coach Brandi Thomas said. “I don’t want to say we played well, but we played OK.

“Our bats were just really quiet. Our defense was great, and A.J. was great (in the circle).”

The Lady Cats host Portales in an 11 a.m. cdoubleheader on Saturday.
