Inequality to be subject of meeting

The New Mexico Office of African American Affairs is hosting a town hall meeting Tuesday in Clovis to discuss inequality among the African American population in Curry County.

According to Clovis City Commissioner and Clovis Small Business Development Center Director Sandra Taylor-Sawyer, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss a recent report that details disparity issues within the African American community in the state.

Census Bureau statistics show that Curry County is home to more African Americans than any other county in New Mexico.

Taylor-Sawyer said topics of conversation will include ways to close disparity gaps and how products and services in the community can be marketed to the African American community.

The town hall is open to anyone, Taylor-Sawyer said, though one of the main benefits will be to bring the black community within the county together.
