CHS softball drops pair

The Clovis High girls softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday in the Las Cruces tournament, and finished the weekend with a 1-3 mark.

Following a 4-2 loss to Mayfield and a 7-0 win over El Paso Loreto Friday, Clovis (1-5) suffered a 7-5 defeat to Goddard and was blanked 10-0 by Cleveland. The game was called after 10 innings via run rule.

“We played well up until the last game,” CHS coach Brandi Thomas said. “We competed, we never gave up. We got started late with the bats in all of our games. If we start quicker with the bats, we’ll be fine.

“A.J. (Wright) threw fine all weekend. We’ve had a tough week as a team all week, but we’ve held together well.”

Clovis is back on the road Tuesday at Artesia.
