Melrose 82, McCurdy 73 — At Melrose, junior Jay Faust and eighth-grader Cade Barnard scored 22 points apiece and the Buffaloes won a shootout to advance to an 8:15 p.m. quarterfinal game on Wednesday against top-seeded Cliff.

The Buffs (14-12), seeded eighth, led the entire game, although McCurdy (17-12) was able to keep it close behind a game-high 39 points from senior forward Daniel Arroyo.

But Melrose had too much balance. Senior guard Colton Draper added 15 points and sophomore guard Wyatt Williams scored 14 for the Buffs, who shot 26-of-35 from the free throw line compared to 14-of-26 for McCurdy.
