Three candidates are seeking the Fort Sumner mayor’s seat and four others are campaigning for two village council seats in the March 4 municipal election.
In the mayor’s race, Justin Ingram’s name will appear on the ballot along with a write-in designation. Two write-in candidates, Raymond Lopez and Rachel Thomas, are hoping voters will select that option and pen in their names.
Ingram is owner of the Old Fort Sumner Museum. Thomas is a political newcomer who works at Farmers Electric Cooperative. Lopez is a former city councilor.
Incumbent Councilors George Sena and Albert Sena are also facing challenges from Demitrio “Tony” Gonzalez and Manuel Lucero.
Gonzalez is a former village employee and Lucero is a retired village employee.
