ROSWELL — Freshman Alejandro Medina scored midway through the first half and Clovis High’s boys never relinquished control in a 2-0 win over New Mexico Military on Tuesday.

Medina beat Colts goalkeeper Juan Tasich in the 22nd minute after the Wildcats caught NMMI in a defensive switch. Sophomore Albert Nava added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute on a give-and-go with senior Ever Dominguez.

It was the seventh match this season decided by two goals or less for the Cats, who now have won two in a row. Senior goalkeeper James Smart had seven saves.

“Today, my defense played really well,” Cats coach Greg Trujillo said. “I never felt we were really threatened. The saves our keeper got were mainly on balls over the top.”

The Cats outshot NMMI on goal 11-2 and had 11 corner kicks to two for the Colts.
