Meetings watch: Clovis school board – Nov. 14

The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education took the following action at its board meeting Tuesday:

  • Gave CMS Superintendent Terry Myers approval to negotiate a proposal with the Clovis Industrial Development Corp. and the city of Clovis to present to Tres Amigas LLC to secure property tax dollars.
  • Approved a revision to the 2012-2013 activity contract with Adair, Inc. This is a continuation of the proposed pay increase for Adair activity bus drivers (for events not day-to-day such as football) which serve all schools in the district. The increase is from $8.25 to $12.65 an hour, a $4.40 increase.
  • Approved a resolution to Amend 403 (b) retirement plan. The plan was adopted Jan. 1, 2009.
  • Introduced revisions to board policies:

The board will conduct at least one preliminary review of the superintendent's budget recommendations prior to the final review. Public comment and input will be taken at such preliminary meetings. The proposed budget shall be submitted by April 15 or later as approved by the secretary of the Public Education Department.

The U.S. flag and the New Mexico flag shall be displayed in each classroom and on or within all public school buildings. No flag is to be flown at half-staff unless approved by the superintendent or a designee who will follow state and federal guidelines.

The authority to suspend a student for up 10 school days, after an informal hearing is held, rests with the school administrator or the principal.
