A California man visiting Clovis as part of a cross-country trip died from a stab wound Friday morning and police have charged an acquaintance with his death, according to law enforcement officials.
Clovis police search for evidence Friday in a vehicle thought to belong to the suspect or the victim in Thursday's stabbing at 300 Dawn Loop.
Kevin Reardon, 35, of Valencia, Calif., died of a single stab wound, according to District Attorney Matt Chandler.
Chip Fox, 35, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., is being held at the Curry County jail on an open court of murder, according to a press release from the Clovis Police Department.
He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
Chandler said Reardon and Fox stopped in Clovis to visit a relative while returning to California by car from (out east).
Chandler declined to discuss a possible motive.
According to the CPD press release:
- The stabbing occurred approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday outside of a home in the 300 block of Dawn Loop in south Clovis during a confrontation between the two men. The two men were staying with an aunt of one of the men on Dawn Loop.
- Reardon died at 5 a.m. Friday after being transported to a trauma hospital in a Lubbock.
- Thursday's stabbing was the city's third homicide this year.
