Complacency has no place in police work

Grrr …

Sunday’s Clovis News Journal story about the life and times of police informant Zach Stephenson shined light in a lot of dark and scary places.

Among the most troubling details uncovered were those about how some Clovis law officers had become so nonchalant about carrying around semi-automatic rifles that two of them forgot to remove an AR-15 from their police car after a work shift.

And police security was so lax an intruder broke into the vehicle in the police parking lot, stole the rifle inside and got away without getting caught.

We’re not just losing the futile war on drugs, some officers have taken leave of common sense.
