Election roundup — Jan. 6

John Jones of Clovis has announced his intention to run for the open District 2 seat on the Clovis City Commission.

Jones, 63, is a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He has also served in the New Mexico Mounted Patrol for 25 years and holds the office of deputy chief.

“I’ve been in Clovis for 34 years,” Jones said. “I have lived here and raised my family. I feel like it’s time I give something back.”

Jones served in the Army during the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart. He is a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

The seat is currently held by attorney Fred Van Soelen. He announced Tuesday he would not seek a third term. No other resident has announced an intention to run for the seat.
