Clovis airport director taking state job

The director at the Clovis Municipal Airport is leaving for a state position.

Steve Summers, who has been with the airport for 17 years, will become the new director of the State Aviation Division of the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

His final day at the Clovis airport will be Nov. 25, and he will take over with the state Nov. 28. Summers turned in his resignation Monday to City Manager Joe Thomas.

“It’s a high honor to be able to help aviation throughout the state,” Summers said. “I look forward to it.”

The division administers grants, does pilot and safety training and aircraft registration and acts as a liason between the DoT and the state’s airports.
