Curry County has eight applicants for its open detention center administrator position, vacant since Keith Norwood resigned Sept. 6.
Interim Administrator Tori Sandoval is one of the applicants for the position, along with:
• Mark Anderson of Newcastle, Maine
• Gerry Billy of Newark, Ohio
• Michael Sales of Sundown, Texas
• Carl ToersBijns of Mesa, Ariz.
• Leo Chavez of Clovis
• Joe Sprunk of Albuquerque
• Michael Williams of Selah, Wash.
Applications were accepted up to Oct. 14, with a salary in the range of $68,259 and $85,324. Norwood’s salary was $79,800.
The county also sought applicants for the possibility of a county attorney position. Amanda Andrasko of Clovis was the only applicant.
County legal duties are currently contracted out to the firm of Doerr and Knudson. Curry County Commissioner Wendell Bostwick said the county is looking at the possibility of an attorney on staff not to “muddy the waters,” but to perform “due diligence” on what best suits the county.
“It’s more than bringing an attorney in,” Bostwick said. “You have to have (office) space, support people. We have to look back at history and experience.”
Bostwick said he had not yet done adequate research to feel comfortable commenting on the detention center candidates.
