TexAnns beat Zias in four

PORTALES — Nikki McNorton had 14 kills and nine total blocks (three solos) Thursday night as Tarleton State pulled away to a 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over Eastern New Mexico University at Greyhound Arena.

Stacie Murrah added 10 kills and four block assists for the TexAnns (14-11, 8-5 LSC).

Junior outside hitter Amber Durand had 16 kills for the Zias (5-19, 1-14), while senior middle blocker Jessica King contributed eight kills and four total blocks (one solo).

ENMU erased a 5-0 deficit to pull even 12-12 in the first game, but Tarleton went on another 5-0 run and pulled away. In the second set, though, Durand collected six kills and the Zias led most of the way to square the match.

Tarleton opened an early 8-3 lead in the third game and the Zias were never able to catch up.

The TexAnns took advantage of three ENMU attack errors to open the fourth set. ENMU pulled eventhree times, the last at 9-9, and still was within 20-19 late before Covell delivered a kill that sent Tarleton on a match-ending 5-0 run.
