Trial postponed in 2008 slaying
The first-degree murder trial of Aaron Quinones, accused of killing 52-year-old Elizabeth McAdams in her Clovis home on Dec. 20, 2008, is being postponed.
Quinones was scheduled to begin trial on Monday, but Ninth Judicial District Attorney Matt Chandler said the trial is being postponed until a date to be announced at the request of the New Mexico Public Defender’s office.
In addition to the murder charges, Quinones faces armed robbery and arson charges.
Investigators said Quinones was looking for his estranged girlfriend when he broke into McAdams home, beat her to death, slashed her throat and set a fire to try and cover up the crime.
The former girlfriend was staying at the McAdams home out of fear of Quinones, police said.
The trial was delayed for almost two years while Quinones was subjected to court-ordered psychological testing.
