Letters to the editor: Amarillo VA appreciates veterans

Amarillo VA appreciates veterans

I wanted so much to write a negative letter to the editor about the way I have been treated by the VA Clinic here in Clovis but decided to write one instead about the treatment I have received in Amarillo

In Amarillo, I was greeted in the parking lot by a person in a passenger cart and he handed me a colorful red, white, and blue business card thanking me for my service to our country.

He took me to the front door of the facility, where I was greeted by another person who also thanked me for my service to our country. I was escorted by a nice fellow who made small talk with me as we walked.

While at my first appointment, which by the way occurred earlier than my scheduled time, I was introduced to the entire staff of my new primary care physician and given their extension numbers. I was told I would be called back within 30 minutes of my call to them. When I left his office to go to another area for another appointment, I was again escorted and again my appointment took place before my scheduled time.

I had two appointments, one at 11 a.m. and one at 1 p.m. I was finished with both by 11:45 a.m.

Thanks to the person in charge and the people who work at the Amarillo VA. Great service begins at the top. I not only feel warmly welcome, I feel appreciated. I am so thankful to the Amarillo VA that they don’t treat me the same way I was treated when I walked through the airport in San Francisco on my return home from Vietnam so many years ago.
