Letters to the editor: Reshuffling assistants not savings

Reshuffling assistants not savings

Let’s see. The Clovis school system is eliminating art education assistants by moving them to other obviously unfilled EA positions.

This will then save $168,000. Math isn’t my strong point, but as far as I can fathom the only way that the school system would save $168,000 would be by laying off the eight educational assistants. By moving them and eliminating the art position the schools would simply put them in another EA slot somewhere that was presently unfilled.

Why not simply retain them as art educational assistants and leave the other slots empty?
