The Clovis GymKatz Gymnastics Club returned for their second season as a competitive team.

Last year, we only competed one team at Level 3 and we placed first in the state at our championships.

This year we have two teams, Level 3 and Level 4. Most of the girls that competed the first season at Level 3 stayed at Level 3 and a few moved up to Level 4 to form another strong team for GymKatz.

Level 3 highlights:

Allison Powell turned a 9.5 on floor to win first place and second place AA.

Breanna Johnson competed for the first time and finished strong in third place AA.

Lydia Schmidt also turned in some solid scores to help her finish with a first place tie in AA.

Latalina Garcia had her best meet yet and placed second in AA.

Our Level 4 team did an outstanding job at state. We only had four girls compete and each of them turned in their personal best of the season.

Lexy Thomas won Level 3 state last year in individual events and all-around and proved that she could move up a level and do it again. She turned in her highest scores on bars wit a 9.475 and on floor with a 9.6 which came after a uncharacteristic beam routine that nearly cost her the all-around title. She took home the gold AA title.

Jayla Mendoza also moved up to compete at Level 4, turning in her highest bar score with a 9.4 for a second place medal and she turned in a 9.2 on floor which gave her a third place medal and put her in third place AA.

Hanna Reid also turned in an outstanding bar routine to earn a third place medal with a 9.1 and also gave her a seventh place finish in AA.

Makayla Childers turned in a beautiful beam routine to earn a 9.15 and a third place medal for that beam set. She finished strong at fifth place AA.
