Friday morning briefing: Clovis’ top chef, a celebration and maybe some rain

Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.

Steaking it out

Check out Doug McGregor of Clovis, now a prize winning steak chef.

Seems Doug, 66, who has never competed in a cooking contest before, decided to try his hand at the Cowboy Culture Celebration steak contest last weekend in Dublin, Texas.
He entered with his son, Brad, who lives in Dublin.

When the smoke cleared, the McGregor team were declared the winners, competing against several professional teams.

Where’d he learn to cook a prize winning steak?

McGregor’s a retired railroader who used to chef at employee events sometimes cooking up to 1,200 steaks in one shot.

Now, he’s thinking he might have a new career.
