Arianna Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and Tarleton State beat Eastern New Mexico University 6-1 in the nightcap to complete sweep of Friday’s Lone Star Conference South softball doubleheader at Zia Field.
Tarleton State beat ENMU 5-1 in the opener.
Samantha Swanda and Katie Smith combined to limit the Zias (11-34, 2-12 South) to four hits in the second game.
Rodriguez’ two-run home run in the third inning gave the TexAnns (19-21-1, 7-7) a 3-0 lead
The Zias’ only run came in the bottom of the inning when Melanie Alderette drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored Tessa Fioritti’s single through the left side.
Tarleton State pushed across single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Catcher Tonya Crockett had a pair of singles for the Zias.
In the opener, ENMU junior Erin Roufosse allowed two hits and blanked the TexAnns through four innings, but Tarleton broke through for three in the top of the fifth.
TSU’s Randi Fentress (3-4) held the Zias hitless until Crockett hit a two-out single to center in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Alderette singled to right field, took second on an infield out and scored on Paige Colburn’s double to left-center.
Fentress, though, retired the final five batters to finish with a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two.
The Zias committed five errors and only two of the runs off Roufosse (6-25) were earned. She allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out five.
Catcher Katie Welborn went 2-for-4 for the TexAnns, including an RBI single in the fourth.
