SAN ANGELO, Texas — Second baseman Alix Dean drove in eight runs — six in the opener — and 10th-ranked Angelo State beat Eastern New Mexico University 15-7 and 7-2 on Saturday to complete a sweep of their three-game Lone Star Conference South Division softball series.
Dean went 3-for-3 with a double, her first home run of the season and a sacrifice fly in the opener for the Rambelles (33-5, 10-2 South), and she added a two-run double in the first inning of the nightcap. Trailing 15-1, the Zias (10-31, 2-10) erupted for six runs in the fifth in the opener to chase starter Mary Kate McKay (11-2), but they couldn’t prevent the eight-run rule from taking effect.
Shortstop Paige Colburn went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the opener, while designated player Amanda Lale keyed the big fifth inning with a two-run double. Colburn gave ENMU a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game with an RBI single, but the Rambelles scored three in the bottom half to take the lead for good.
Lale drove in three runs in the opener, while catcher Tonya Crockett had two hits. Center fielder Melanie Alderette had a pair of hits for the Zias in the second game.
