The New Mexico Championships Team Roping will be taking place in Clovis Friday through Sunday.
Sanctioned by the United States Team Roping Championships, the event will be held at the Curry County Events Center beginning at 9 a.m. daily.
“Clovis is a great venue for the sport and we are looking forward to seeing how the event will grow since its move from Albuquerque,” said USTRC President Kirk Bray.
“This event will allow area ropers to qualify for the National Finals of Team Roping, as well as the regional finals to take place in Colorado in September. Others interested in the sport can also come by and see what makes team roping one of the richest sports in the horse industry.”
A timed event that requires team effort, ropers participating in USTRC sanctioned events are working toward competing in the National Finals of Team Roping.
An approximate prize package of $175,000 will be awarded to ropers.
In 2010, ropers from more than 15 states participated, competing for a purse of more than $155,000, according to a press release.
