PORTALES — Center fielder Melissa Mendoza went 4-for-5 in each game and Abilene Christian banged out 14 extra base hits in an 11-4, 17-2 Lone Star Conference South doubleheader sweep Saturday of Eastern New Mexico University.
Mendoza homered and doubled in the opener, in which the Wildcats (17-3, 3-0 LSC) scored three runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings.
Freshman catcher Morgan Miller and junior left field Devin Higgins each had two hits each for the Zias, (5-18, 0-3), including a solo home run by Miller in a two-run fifth inning that pulled ENMU within 7-3.
Brittany Rexroat earned the win for ACU, scattering eight hits and striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats plated 10 runs in the first inning before ENMU managed to get an out.
ACU finished with 16 hits, including six doubles and a home run by Lyndi Smith.
Selby Hall and Peyton Mosley combined to limit ENMU to three hits in the game, which was stopped after five innings by run-rule.
