Clovis Municipal Schools, Clovis Christian and Clovis Community College will close Wednesday due to weather concerns.

Tuesday, CCC will close its campus at 4 p.m., canceling evening classes.

The decision was made to close school because of concerns about extreme temperatures, according to Clovis Municipal Schools’ Jelayne Curtis.

“We want to ensure that our kids are safe,” she said Tuesday afternoon.“I don’t think we anticipate that the roads will get much worse, (but) we are concerned about the extreme overnight temperatures.”

The National Weather Service has predicted temperatures dipping below zero overnight and have said the effect will be compounded by wind-chill.

CMS also canceled afterschool programs, tutoring and the boys varsity basketball game in Lovington scheduled for Tuesday night.

Lisa Spencer of CCC said the college followed the example set by Clovis schools, out of concern about temperatures ad recognition that many of its students are parents of school-age children.
